But its attention seeking
This weekend has been a strange one, I had abit of back and too on twitter which ended with me blocking a few people and vice versa. Someone had been making a few inappropriate comments on numerous things id posted, used photos id posted and it had got abit much and I bit back, they ultimately got the hump such is life. What got me though is a response I got saying that they had mental health issues... and?!
First do we not all have mental health issues? after all we all have mental health. Secondly since when has it given anyone the right to make someone else uncomfortable and them have to put up with it and not react in a measured way - by removing themselves from the situation after explaining why.
I have on numerous occasions in this blog and in my previous one spoken out about mental health - the good and the not so good - I will advocate for anyone but what I wont do is allow mental ill health to be used as a cop out excuse to be creepy, to act inappropriately or for anyone to be made to feel like they have to allow that.
A side note I suppose that came from all this is that some of my posts can be a little tongue in cheek, seem flirty - In short they are attention seeking. Of course they are, is that not the entire purpose of social media? We are all here to be social, to interact and for validation from others in some way or another. I am generally quite a dark humoured inappropriate folk, but because im a bit cheeky does that give a stranger the right to make sexual advances without so much as knowing my real name, id say not.
There is a large difference between respectful discussion of interests and a large part of human interaction and intimacy and just generally being a lech and a perv. The level of bravado people display online is very different to what I imagine they would in person, I could be wrong but the number of creeps per scroll is quite disturbing. And this is not a gender specific rant before I get bawled out for that one too, there is some truly bizarre happenings online where because an image or a comment has been put out there assumptions about that persons character are made.
Attention seeking is a phrase that i loathe to be honest, we all want validation for different reasons. We all need that in our lives - And it is our right to choose how to respond to what we put out there.
